Lead Vocals/Guitar - Craig Mackenzie

Craig started his musical career relatively late. In 2012 Craig performed a solo cover act that entertained local pubs in the North Essex.

In September 2013, Craig joined a newly formed rock cover band Slippery Fret as lead vocalist which quickly received a positive reputation and gained gigs across North Essex and Suffolk. It was during this time that Craig met Colin (previous lead guitarist of Slippery Fret) and they embarked on a journey of writing their own material across the next year.

In June 2015, Craig decided to leave Slippery Fret to create the band of Jump Mother Crab which eventually would perform the tracks that he and Colin had written in addition to performing a wide genre of covers.

Craig's main influences are from the Britpop era, namely Oasis, whilst more recently Noel Gallagher, Kasabian and Stereophonics have all featured greatly on his playlist. Craig's Scottish roots also highlight why he has a keen interest in the Celtic/Country genre with Runrig being a personal favourite.

The youngest in the band, Craig brings a confident front man approach, and with his range of stage lighting creates that little something different on stage.

Lead Guitar - Colin Cripps

Colin has played in bands since he was 13 years old doing everything from covers to original material by both himself and others. He has played pop, blues, rock, soul, funk and folk, both electric and acoustic, and once headlined at Cambridge festival. This means of course that he has variously imagined himself as Keith Richards, Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Richard Thompson, Martin Carthy, Jimmy Page, Slash, Paul Weller, Nile Rogers, Buddy Guy, John Mayer and Joe Bonamassa: unfortunately, despite now being old father time, he never managed to look or play like any of them…

Colin taught modern music in schools earlier in life and ran everything from big swing jazz bands to doo-wop vocal harmony groups. He once spent the school holidays bricking up the windows of a classroom to turn it into a music studio - pity he didn’t get permission first.

He has written and released a rock opera, "The Hermit", and a text book on modern music for schools: "Popular Music in the Twentieth Century".  Recently he has released two albums with singer/songwriter Bob Hughes and his own music is being used in a forthcoming horror film. He is currently enjoying his songwriting/arranging/producing partnership with Craig, who he hopes will make him a millionaire.

Colin is the musical driving force behind the band with his blistering guitar solos. One thing you can be sure on with Colin, he will never play the same solo twice!

Bass - Lorna Lancaster

Lorna was the original bassist when Jump Mother Crab formed in 2015 until 2018. Lorna returned in 2021 to support the band during Sean's illness and re-joined on a permanent basis.

Lorna is a music tutor and self taught bassist. She is from a musical family and learned classical piano and flute as a child. As an adult she took up the saxophone and attended jazz workshops and classes. She often found herself inadvertently playing basslines which inspired her to take up the bass. She has played both saxophone and bass in various different bands over the years playing all styles including jazz, rock, blues, ska, pop, disco, funk and soul.

Lorna has a varied repertoire, a useful ability to “busk it” and pick up songs quickly by ear. This has secured her quite a few roles as resident bassist in several jam nights over the years.

Lorna has Trinity College Jazz Saxophone Grades 6 & 8 with Distinction, and although she now dedicates her gigging time to playing bass, her teaching practice extends to saxophone, flute and bass.

Lorna has an eclectic taste in music and her favourite bass players and artists include: Pino Palladino, Stanley Clark, Jack Bruce, Gerry McAvoy, Andy Fraser, Tommy Shannon, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Free, Steely Dan, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Robin Trower, Snarky Puppy, Jamiroquai, Foo Fighters and many more.
